Gartner’s Special Report “iPad and Beyond: What the Future of Computing Holds,” examines how the iPad and media tablets have impacted the hardware industry.
iPad will continue to dominate the tablet market through 2014, according to a new Gartner report. The researcher says Apple will have a “free run” over its competitors in the following years and retain the majority of the market. Global tablet market is experiencing significant growth, with Gartner forecasting 63.6 million tablets to be sold globally this year, a drastic increase from 17.6 million units sold in 2010. Apple’s iPad is expected to account for 73.4 percent of worldwide tablet sales in 2011.
Beyond Apple iOS and the Android OS, Gartner doesn’t expect any other platforms to account for more than 5% of the tablet market this year.
